Sending Reminders for perpetual contracts

Hi there everybody.

Can anyone share their experiences with setting a notification schedule for perpetual contracts? As I see it, there are basically two ways to do this:

1) set a 'fictional' expiration date in the contract term attributes and have Ariba send out reminders to the person(s) stated on the 'expiration email recipients'

or

2) Create a notification task and set the schedule

I think apporach no. 2 is somewhat more comprehensive, but I would be interested in hearing what is actually being applied 'out there' and what your challenges are.
