Hi Gopal,

Thanks for writing to us. Here are the answers

1. Can Microsoft Internet Explorer be used instead of FireFox, to record the test scripts since FireFox is NOT a standard browser allowed for the end-users?

Answer: The Selenium IDE is supported by open QA only on firefox. So, no, the tests cannot be recorded on non firefox browsers including Internet Explorer

2. Selenium being a FireFox Plugin, will it allow recording of upstream based test scrpts that involve Desktop File Sync (DFS) ?

Answer: Firefox does not support Activex plugins or VB script. So any features which depend on these elements will not work with firefox as documented in the compatibility matrix. The same is extended onto the Selenium recordings also since the firefox browser doesn’t support those features. This includes DFS, Excel export, word integration etc in the upstream product suite.

3. Can the scripts created on one instance (DEV or Test) be migrated and executed on a different instance (UAT) ?

Answer: The short answer, Yes, it will work. Slightly longer answer: Selenium is a UI automation tool and is very sensitive to UI changes. So as long as the UI elements are not changed between the two systems, e.g UI customizations are not added/removed between the systems, it will work.

Let me know if you need further information.

regards,

Hari Babu
