Well, in the beginning we tried to build up the SPQ to be able to populate the SAP vendor master based on data from Ariba.
We had 100s of fields with various conditions to get that working.
Ariba SM 2.0 will supposedly contain a full model of the SAP vendor master with 2-way sync between SAP-Ariba (or with MDG-S).
Ariba SM will also come with a new supplier matrix where you can have separate questions for different combinations. You could imagine questions relevant for Ukraine and others for Brazil. Or questions relevant in one Category but not another. Ariba SM 2.0 is not relased yet. And it may be that only part of SM 2.0 is released in Q4 and then more stuff coming in Q1 2017.
Today the SPQ is global - one size fits all and you can work with conditions to workaround the requirement to ask different questions depending on the case.
I think if you check with your Ariba sales rep then he/she might be able to share the general idea about what is coming with Ariba SM 2.0.
Please note that above comments about Ariba SM 2.0 is just my current understanding. I do not work for Ariba and I've only seen presentations on Ariba Live in Madrid back in June 2016. Things may change before they reach production.
